SBP to issue Rs50 commemorative coin to honour constitution

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – A commemorative coin worth Rs50 will be issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to honour the 50th anniversary of the promulgation of the constitution of Pakistan, according to a statement released by the central bank on Thursday.

The Constitution, which was passed by the National Assembly of Pakistan on April 10, 1973, is considered as the supreme law of Pakistan. It set out the outline of the state, and ensures the protection of fundamental rights of its citizens. The SBP noted that in 2023, which marks the Constitution's Golden Jubilee, the federal government has authorized the issuance of a commemorative coin worth Rs50.

The coin will be round, weighing 13.5 grams, with a dimension of 30mm, and made of 75% copper and 25% nickel. The front side will feature a crescent moon and a five-pointed star, with an inscription of "Islami Jamhooriya Pakistan" in Urdu script above it, and two sprigs of wheat with the year of issue, 2023, at the bottom.

The reverse side will feature a book titled "The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan" in the centre, with the periphery inscribed with "golden jubilee of constitution of Pakistan" in Urdu script. The 50-year period will be mentioned below the book, while "50" and "years" will be written in Urdu on the right and left sides, respectively. The commemorative coin will be available through exchange counters at all field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation from April 14.
