Seizure of smuggled goods rises 20pc in 10 months: FBR
The FBR Chairman had also urged the traders to refrain from dealing in smuggled goods
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Owing to the stringent enforcement measures of Pakistan Customs against smuggling, the of seizure of smuggled goods has registered an increase of 20 percent in terms of value for the period July-April (2018-19) compared to corresponding period of previous year.
According to a press statement issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan customs mobile squads had been monitoring the major entry points and smuggling routes in the country to check the malpractice.
Beside, the information based joint operations were being carried out by Pakistan Customs with the assistance of Law Enforcement Agencies for seizure of smuggled goods.
The FBR in the statement stated that it was also responsibility of the business community to discourage the sale and purchase of smuggled goods since smuggling is illegal and immoral.
The FBR Chairman Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi had also urged the traders to refrain from dealing in smuggled goods and contribute positively to the government’s initiative to revive the economy, it added.
Meanwhile Customs Field Formations across the Country have embarked upon constituting special teams to seize smuggled goods wherever found.
