World Bank CEO gives thumbs-up to Pakistan's economic growth
Pakistan needs to double its spending on health, nutrition and education, reveals the official
WEB DESK (Dunya News) - In her recent article, the Chief Executive Officer of World Bank Kristalina Georgieva has hailed the economic progress of Pakistan over the last few years.
Recalling her recent visit to the country, the World Bank official was deeply impressed with the economic and security situations as she witnessed big changes ever since her last visit back in 2011.
The World Bank official gave her thumbs up to the performance of the country over the last three years.
"Pakistan worked through three tough years that brought improvements in security and a more stable economy," reveals Kristalina Georgieva.
She further reveals that much part of the economic growth has benefited poor masses of the country.
In her discussions with the government officials, she laid emphasis on three areas of opportunity and challenge, i.e., higher growth and jobs, investing in its own people and challenges of water, energy and security.
Kristalina Georgieva revealed that the current government wants to attain the annual economic growth of 6 to 7 per cent as compared to the current 4.7 per cent; it will have to invest double to 30 per cent of GDP.
The official has also professed that Pakistan is spending only three per cent of its GDP is on health, nutrition, and education and which needs to be doubled.
In her discussions with Pakistani leaders, the World Bank official emphasized that the country should have to address the challenges of water, energy and security.
It is pertinent to mention that the Chief Executive Officer for the World Bank met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and leaders of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during her recent visit to the country.
