TOKYO (AFP) - Tokyo stocks started the year s final trading session on a positive note Wednesday, following a strong lead from Wall Street and after a rise in oil prices.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.47 percent, or 88.60 points, to 19,070.83 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares climbed 0.45 percent, or 6.89 points, to 1,550.28. Japanese financial markets will be closed on Thursday for a public holiday.
