LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Association of Automobile Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) on Friday has warned the government about closure of 300 tractor factories while around three lac workers would lose jobs in the entire country.

Paapaam delegation held a meeting with Federal Minister of Industries Ghulam Murtaza in the provincial capital.

The representatives of the association informed the minister about financial status of the tractor manufacturing companies. Association Chairman Mumshad Ali said that farmers are suffering a lot here due to lessened prices of crops in the international markets.

On the other hand, the government has imposed ten percent general sales tax (GST) on sale of tractors. The development has hiked the prices by at least Rs 1.6 lac per unit. Resultantly, the sale has been affected as in the current Fiscal Year (FY) it is limited to only half of that in FY-2014-15.

The federal government has also not allocated funds for purchase of tractors in it recently announced Kisan Package. The Punjab and Sindh government have also not started tractor schemes.
