SHANGHAI (AFP) - Chinese shares surged in the morning session on Monday, led by heavyweight blue-chips thanks to ample market liquidity, dealers said.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index jumped 2.32 percent, or 108.09 points, to 4,765.69 by the break.

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China s second exchange, added 1.16 percent, or 31.77 points, to 2,772.69.

The Hong Kong stock market was closed for a public holiday.
