NEW YORK (AFP) - The dollar edged lower against the euro and British pound but edged up on the yen Monday in narrow trade still under the cloud of last week s disappointing US data.
With little news to move the markets, the greenback remained close to where it was after taking a sharp fall last Wednesday on poor US data on inflation and retail sales.
Markets were also cautious ahead of the release of Chinese third-quarter economic growth data, amid worries the world s number-two economy is decelerating, said Neil Gilbert of Forex.com.
"Expectations are for the Chinese economy to have grown 7.2 percent, but rumblings of a slowdown in the nation are growing louder," he warned.
With the euro under constant pressure from worries over eurozone deflation, he said, the beneficiary could prove to be the safe-haven Japanese yen.
