European stocks subdued at open after holiday

LONDON (AFP) - Europe's main stock markets edged higher at the start of trading on Tuesday, as London investors returned to their desks following a long holiday weekend.

In opening trade, London's benchmark FTSE 100 index of top companies added just 0.03 percent to 6,824.34 points compared with Friday's closing level. The market was shut on Monday for a public holiday.

Frankfurt's DAX 30 rose 0.43 percent to 9,570.25 points and in Paris the CAC 40 gained 0.39 percent to 4,475.48 compared with the closing levels on Monday.
