Pakistan and Sudan have agreed to expand cooperation in security, police training, NADRA and cybercrime, with plans to sign a formal cybercrime agreement soon.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan and Sudan have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several key sectors, including security, internal affairs, police training, institutional coordination, civil registration and cybercrime.

The two countries also decided to sign a formal agreement on cooperation in cybercrime in the near future.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Sudanese counterpart Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali in Islamabad. The meeting was followed by detailed discussions at the delegation level.

During the talks, Mohsin Naqvi offered Pakistan's full support for peace and reconstruction efforts in Sudan.

Highlighting the role of Pakistan's National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), he said the authority had helped issue 36 million citizenship cards, nine million national identity cards, 18 million birth certificates and 500,000 death certificates in Sudan.

Naqvi assured the Sudanese delegation that Pakistan would continue providing assistance in civil registration and NADRA-related systems.

Responding to concerns raised by his Sudanese counterpart, the interior minister also directed authorities to address visa-related issues faced by Sudanese women married to Pakistani nationals residing in Pakistan.

He further expressed Pakistan's willingness to provide professional training to Sudanese police officers and facilitate Sudanese citizens seeking quality medical treatment in Pakistan.

The Sudanese interior minister expressed interest in benefiting from Pakistan's expertise, particularly in combating cybercrime. He described Pakistan as a brotherly country and emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation across various sectors.

He also thanked the Pakistani government and interior minister for their continued assistance.

Senior officials from both countries attended the meeting, including the federal interior secretary, NADRA chairman, FIA director general, Anti-Narcotics Force director general, Islamabad inspector general of police and representatives of other relevant institutions.
