PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - The proposed Regional Development and Representative Council for 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken shape, with its secretariat planned for Peshawar, according to sources.
The council will comprise eight tribal districts and four settled districts. Sources said significant progress had been made towards establishing the proposed body.
An additional chief secretary and an additional inspector general of police have also been appointed to oversee administrative affairs in the relevant areas.
A camp office for the council will also be established in Chehkan, an area of Dera Ismail Khan, sources said.
The proposed council will include two publicly elected elders from each of the 12 districts, bringing its total membership to 24.
The 24-member forum will be known as the Regional Development and Representative Council. The federal government will directly supervise its funding and all financial matters, according to sources.
The council, headed by the additional chief secretary, will remain in contact with the federal government. Under the proposed administrative framework, the body will provide a joint platform for representation of the 12 districts, development-related matters and coordination with the federal government.
