Karachi plans to redevelop historic Burns Road as a pedestrian-friendly street, preserving its cultural heritage while improving public facilities and business conditions.

KARACHI (Web Desk) - A plan has been prepared to transform Karachi’s historic Burns Road into a beautiful, pedestrian-friendly street while preserving its traditional identity and cultural heritage.

Architect Yasmeen Lari presented the proposed redevelopment model at a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah.

Shah said the project aimed to improve public facilities while preserving the historic and cultural significance of Burns Road. He said the initiative would create a more organised and attractive environment for residents, visitors and business owners.

He added that making the street pedestrian-friendly would improve movement for visitors and enhance the atmosphere of the area, which is known for its food businesses.

According to the chief secretary, the redevelopment plan would preserve Burns Road’s historic character and traditional ambience while improving facilities for the public. Local residents and the business community had also been taken into confidence regarding the proposal.

Shah said Karachi Mayor and the relevant municipal town administration were fully aligned with the proposed project. The initiative aims to protect the area’s heritage while improving the urban environment and public amenities.
