MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) – The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has announced the schedule for the presidential election, with polling set to take place on September 24.
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd.) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal announced the schedule during a press conference, saying candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers on September 19 between 10am and noon at the office of the Chief Election Commissioner, who will also serve as the returning officer.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on the same day immediately after the filing process is completed.
Presidential candidates will have until 11:30am on September 23 to withdraw their nomination papers, according to the election schedule.
Justice (retd.) Mughal said polling for the presidential election would be held at the AJK Legislative Assembly Hall on September 24 from 10am to 1pm.
The counting of votes will begin immediately after polling concludes.
The chief election commissioner has also requested the acting president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to convene a session of the Legislative Assembly on September 24 for the election of the new president.
The announcement formally sets in motion the process for electing the next president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
