KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Sindh government has decided to ensure that employees retiring from January 1, 2027, receive their pensions on the day of retirement.
A key meeting on pensions and medical reimbursements was held under Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, attended by the Accountant General Sindh, secretaries of Finance, Services, Health and General Administration.
The chief secretary directed all departments to ensure that employees retiring from January 1, 2027, receive their pensions and basic financial dues on their final day of service.
He also directed provincial departments to clear all pending pension bills within three months, stressing that retired employees should not have to make repeated visits to government offices to receive their pensions.
Asif Hyder Shah ordered the establishment of an integrated system for timely pension payments and directed the formation of an interdepartmental task force headed by the Services secretary.
The task force will include representatives from the Accountant General Sindh, Finance, Health, General Administration and other relevant departments.
He said amendments to existing rules should also be proposed where necessary to ensure timely pension payments, while the final implementation framework should be presented within one week.
The meeting also reviewed delays in medical reimbursement claims of government employees. Officials identified incomplete documentation, e-verification and delays in issuing no-objection certificates as major obstacles.
The chief secretary said delays in medical claims were caused by administrative hurdles rather than policy or funding issues and directed authorities to eliminate unnecessary paperwork.
The General Administration secretary was directed to conduct a joint review of the medical reimbursement procedure. The Accountant General Sindh, Finance, Services and other departments were asked to simplify the claims process.
Asif Hyder Shah said the medical reimbursement system should be made easier and faster for government employees and their families, stressing that employees should not face unnecessary bureaucratic difficulties in obtaining pensions and medical dues.
