BISHKEK (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday agreed to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations and expand cooperation across multiple sectors during a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
The two leaders reviewed the state of bilateral relations and discussed progress in various areas of cooperation between the neighbouring countries.
During the meeting, Shehbaz and Pezeshkian reaffirmed their commitment to further developing bilateral ties and stressed the need to fully utilise opportunities available for expanding cooperation in different fields.
The meeting came as Prime Minister Shehbaz arrived in Kyrgyzstan for a three-day visit. He was received upon arrival by Kyrgyz Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev.
According to Pakistan's Foreign Office, the prime minister will address the SCO summit on September 1 and present Islamabad's position on major regional and international developments.
Shehbaz will also participate in the SCO Plus summit and attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games as a guest of honour.
The prime minister is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with leaders attending the summit, with discussions focusing on trade, investment, bilateral relations and broader regional cooperation.
The gathering brings together leaders from several major regional powers, including China, Russia, Iran, India and Pakistan.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also attending the summit, placing the prime ministers of Pakistan and India at the same international gathering in Bishkek this week.
On September 2, Shehbaz is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Kyrgyzstan, where he will meet President Sadyr Japarov for talks covering different aspects of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations.
Federal ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Abdul Aleem Khan and Attaullah Tarar are accompanying the prime minister during the visit.
