MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) - Newly elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani on Saturday visited the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir.
The visit comes against the backdrop of differences over Gilani’s nomination for the office of prime minister.
Shah Ghulam Qadir had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with Gilani’s nomination and did not vote for him in the election.
The PML-N AJK president had also boycotted the session of the AJK Legislative Assembly convened to elect Gilani as prime minister.
Gilani’s visit to Qadir’s residence is being seen as an effort to ease tensions and address differences within the PML-N following the prime minister election.
Earlier, Iftikhar Gilani took oath of his office, with Acting AJK President Chaudhry Tariq Farooq administering the oath.

Addressing the AJK Legislative Assembly after the oath-taking ceremony, Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
He thanked the party leadership and all those who expressed confidence in him for the office of prime minister.
Gilani said collective efforts would be required to transform Azad Kashmir into a model of development and prosperity.
The newly elected prime minister said his government would need the support of members of the Legislative Assembly to achieve its objectives.
