ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan has kept petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices unchanged, leaving motorists facing no increase or reduction in fuel costs from August 11 (Tuesday).
Petrol will continue to sell at Rs327.62 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel remains Rs380.86 per litre.
The decision was announced by the federal government on Monday through a Petroleum Division notification. The existing rates will remain in force from August 11 under the country’s new daily petroleum pricing mechanism.
The government is currently charging Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol, while taxes and duties on HSD stand at Rs100 per litre.
Under the latest notification, the petrol price remains unchanged at Rs327.62 per litre, compared with the previous rate of Rs327.62. HSD will also remain at Rs380.86 per litre, with no change from the previous price.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has started publishing daily petroleum prices on its website as part of efforts to improve transparency and enable changes in international oil prices to be reflected more quickly in domestic fuel rates.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has said the daily prices are calculated using a seven-day average of international market prices, a method aligned with international practice.
The move towards daily pricing comes against a backdrop of continued volatility in global oil markets following renewed hostilities in the Middle East. Pakistan had initially shifted from its previous fortnightly price review to a weekly mechanism after the conflict in the region began on February 28, when Israel and the United States attacked Iran.
The conflict prompted Iran to shut the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy route that previously carried around a fifth of global energy supplies.
Tensions have since risen following the collapse of a fragile June truce between Tehran and Washington, reviving concerns over a wider conflict and creating further uncertainty around energy flows through the strategic waterway.
