ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A major relief for electricity consumers across Pakistan, including Karachi, is nearing its end as the Rs1.99 per unit reduction under the quarterly adjustment is set to expire this month, raising the possibility of higher electricity tariffs from next month.
According to sources, electricity consumers across the country are currently receiving relief of more than Rs67.17 billion under the quarterly adjustment for January to March 2026. The adjustment, which has been in effect since June 2026, will complete its three-month period in August.
Following the expiry of the current adjustment, the quarterly adjustment for April to June 2026 is expected to take effect from next month, potentially increasing electricity prices for consumers.
Sources said power distribution companies have submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), seeking to pass on an additional burden of more than Rs23 billion to electricity consumers.
The proposed adjustment would amount to an increase of around Rs1 per unit. However, the final increase in the quarterly adjustment will be determined by NEPRA.
