KARACHI (Dunya News) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal has said his party will support and participate in every movement seeking the creation of new provinces in Pakistan.
Addressing an MQM-P public gathering in Surjani Town, Kamal said Pakistan’s population had surpassed 240 million, yet the country still had only four provinces.
He said the creation of new administrative units had become essential.
He said the MQM-P had presented a constitutional draft and an agenda aimed at devolving powers to the grassroots level, but the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) did not support the proposal.
He added that the party’s demands were also not accepted during the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments.

Kamal said the MQM-P would now lead the movement for the creation of new administrative units and become part of every campaign seeking new provinces.
He said there was no need for new demarcations and proposed that existing divisions be given the status of provinces.
According to Kamal, Pakistan should have 33 provinces, with Islamabad also being granted provincial status.
He criticised the situation in Sindh, saying residents still lacked access to clean drinking water and that children in Karachi were dying after falling into open drains.
Kamal said the people of Sindh did not need to give up even an inch of their province’s territory, arguing that the real problem was the administrative system.
He said the country was currently being run by four chief ministers and warned that they should be concerned that voters would not support them if they failed to deliver.
