LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released its report on losses caused by this year's monsoon rains, reporting 29 deaths and 203 injuries in rain-related incidents across the province. The authority has also issued a fresh alert to the administration ahead of the third spell of monsoon rains.
According to the PDMA report, most fatalities were caused by the collapse of mud and dilapidated houses, lightning strikes, and electrocution during the ongoing monsoon season. The report further stated that 52 houses sustained partial damage due to heavy rainfall, while six livestock animals were also killed.
PDMA Director General has directed the district administration to remain on high alert in view of the upcoming third spell of monsoon rains, warning of possible urban flooding and flash flooding in several areas. Authorities have been instructed to ensure preparedness and take precautionary measures to minimize risks.
The PDMA chief said the highest number of deaths occurred due to the collapse of roofs of old and unsafe buildings. Citizens have also been advised to stay away from exposed electricity wires and utility poles during rainfall to avoid electrocution.
Under the Punjab government's policy, financial assistance ranging from 1 million to 5 million is being provided to the families of those who lost their lives in rain-related incidents.
