ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday inaugurated Pakistan's largest Sky47 data centre, Karakoram One, marking a major milestone in the country's digital infrastructure development.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the federal capital, where the prime minister and the army chief formally launched the state-of-the-art facility and received a detailed briefing on its technical capabilities and operational capacity.
According to officials, the Karakoram One data centre will provide advanced infrastructure for cloud computing, data hosting and next-generation digital services. It is designed to support artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and high-performance computing while strengthening the protection of sensitive national and commercial data.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz described the project as highly impressive and said it represented the future of Pakistan's digital economy.
He said initiatives such as Sky47 would help shape the country's technological future and praised the dedication behind the project's completion.
The prime minister also commended Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his leadership and acknowledged project partner ZTE for its contribution. He said determination and resilience in the face of challenges make landmark achievements possible.
Concluding his remarks, Shehbaz thanked all stakeholders for delivering what he described as a valuable national asset.
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the launch of the Sky47 data centre marked the beginning of a new era of artificial intelligence in Pakistan and would serve as a significant boost to the country's digital economy.
