ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -The federal government has decided to immediately import one million tonnes of wheat to meet the country's food requirements and stabilise the domestic wheat market.
According to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the imported wheat will help bridge supply needs and ensure sufficient availability across the country while supporting market stability.
The ministry said that wheat stocks currently held by the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) will also be utilised to meet the requirements of the provinces, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of wheat nationwide.
Officials said the combined use of imported wheat and existing government reserves is intended to maintain a steady supply chain and prevent shortages.
The Ministry of National Food Security and Research reiterated that the government remains committed to providing the public with affordable and quality wheat while taking necessary measures to safeguard food security and keep essential commodities readily available.
