Punjab issues new policy for private school building safety certificates

Updated on:

Punjab revises private school safety policy, requiring building fitness certificates from PEC-registered engineers before registration is granted.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has introduced a new policy for inspecting private school buildings following the Kahna and Baghbanpura incidents, making building fitness certification mandatory through registered engineering professionals.

Under the revised procedure, issued after the Communication and Works (C&W) Department stopped issuing building fitness certificates, all private schools must now obtain a Building Fitness Certificate from a Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC)-registered civil engineer or a registered engineering firm.

The School Education Department has directed all deputy commissioners and chief executive officers (Education) to ensure strict implementation of the new policy.

According to the official directive, no private school will be granted registration without a valid building fitness certificate. All private educational institutions have also been instructed to comply with legal requirements relating to the structural safety of their buildings.
