KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh government has decided to add 50 double-decker buses and 500 electric buses to the province's public transport fleet as part of its plan to modernise the transport system.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon to review public transport projects, land allocation for bus depots and the province's future transport strategy.
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Karachi Development Authority Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, deputy commissioners from various districts and senior officials from relevant departments.
Officials briefed the meeting on ongoing public transport projects, land requirements for bus parking and operations, available government land in different districts, proposed locations and future infrastructure needs.
Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the induction of 50 double-decker and 500 electric buses would significantly improve the province's public transport system.
He directed deputy commissioners to identify vacant government land in their respective districts to facilitate the establishment of bus depots for future mass transit projects.
The senior minister said the Sindh government remains committed to providing citizens with modern, comfortable and environmentally friendly public transport and is working to bring the new buses into service as soon as possible.
