ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will provide Pakistan an additional $3.6 billion over the next 14 months under its ongoing financial assistance programmes, according to official documents.
The documents stated that the combined value of the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) programmes stands at $8.4 billion, out of which $4.8 billion has already been disbursed to Pakistan.
According to the documents, the remaining $3.6 billion will be released during the next 14 months. The next economic review under both programmes is expected to take place in September, while an IMF mission may visit Pakistan for the fourth review.
Sources said the upcoming review of the two programmes is likely in September, following which discussions between Pakistani authorities and the IMF mission may be held.
The IMF has emphasised maintaining fiscal discipline, reducing the budget deficit, increasing tax revenues and introducing reforms in the tax system.
The programme conditions also include reforms in the energy sector, reduction of circular debt, privatisation of state-owned enterprises, ensuring debt sustainability and measures to control inflation.
The documents further stated that Pakistan will also have to implement reforms to address risks linked to climate change, floods and droughts.
Under the Extended Fund Facility, Pakistan is expected to receive a total of $7 billion by September 2027, while $1.4 billion will be provided under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility programme aimed at addressing climate-related challenges.
