(Web Desk) - Malaysia has extended its contract with marine exploration firm Ocean Infinity by one year to continue the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared in 2014 with 239 passengers on board.
The Ministry of Transport said the company will continue searching for the aircraft's wreckage after years of unsuccessful operations in the southern Indian Ocean. MH370, a Boeing 777, vanished while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, in one of aviation's greatest unsolved mysteries.
Under the agreement signed last year, Ocean Infinity is searching a 15,000-square-kilometre area and will receive $70 million if the wreckage is found.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the contract has been extended from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, reaffirming the government's commitment to finding answers for the victims' families. He added that the extension also accommodates Ocean Infinity's commercial commitments, which require some search equipment and vessels to be temporarily redeployed between November 2026 and April 2027.
