GENEVA (Dunya News) - Pakistan has expressed serious concern over the worsening situation in Palestine at the United Nations Security Council, calling on Israel to immediately halt illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Addressing a Security Council session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, said the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories remains extremely critical, while violence by Israeli settlers and illegal settlement activities are unacceptable.
He said that despite the ceasefire in Gaza, Palestinian casualties continue, urging the Security Council to take effective measures to ensure Israel complies with international law.
The Pakistani envoy demanded the immediate restoration of withheld Palestinian Authority funds and called for an end to the annexation of Palestinian lands, demolition of homes and forced displacement of Palestinians.
Asim Iftikhar stressed that Palestinians must be provided protection from violence by settlers and emphasized that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only viable path toward lasting peace.
He reiterated that the two-state solution is the only practical framework for achieving sustainable peace and stability in the Middle East.
