LAHORE (Dunya News) - Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has announced that the provincial government plans to install wastewater treatment plants in every city across Punjab as part of its broader strategy to improve water and sanitation infrastructure.

Speaking during the budget session in Punjab Assembly, Aurangzeb congratulated the speaker and the government on the passage of the provincial budget and praised the development initiatives being undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

She said the government is implementing a major project to replace 70- to 75-year-old underground water supply and sewerage lines across the province.

Work is currently underway in 84 cities and includes upgrading underground sewerage networks, constructing underground storage tanks, and installing recharge wells to help replenish groundwater.

Aurangzeb also announced that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to inaugurate the Sargodha Cardiology Hospital during the first week of July.

She said the hospital's construction and installation of medical equipment had been completed on schedule.

She added that water mapping has been completed in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, and surrounding areas, where clean water projects worth Rs42 billion are currently under implementation.

According to Aurangzeb, 5,800 water filtration plants are supplying clean drinking water to communities across the province.

She further said that under the government's model villages programme, covering 2,400 villages, residents will be provided with water supply, sewerage, sanitation, and other essential infrastructure without discrimination.

Criticising the opposition, Aurangzeb challenged it to identify a single wastewater treatment plant established during its tenure.

She reiterated that the current Punjab government is committed to installing wastewater treatment plants in every city across the province.
