Rashid Riaz set for Test umpiring debut

Pakistani umpire Rashid Riaz Waqar promoted to ICC Emerging Panel, becoming 34th Pakistani official to enter men’s Test cricket.

LAHORE (Dunya News) — Pakistani umpire Rashid Riaz Waqar has achieved another major milestone as he has been promoted from the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) International Panel to the Emerging Panel of umpires.

The 50-year-old umpire will officially begin his Test umpiring career on Sunday when he performs on-field umpiring duties in the one-off Test match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Harare.

With this achievement, Rashid Riaz Waqar will become the 34th Pakistani umpire to officiate in men’s Test cricket, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Rashid Riaz Waqar is also a former first-class cricketer. During his 12-year first-class career, he played 50 matches before taking up umpiring.

He has so far officiated in 118 men’s and women’s international white-ball matches. He began his international umpiring career in October 2018 in the Pakistan-Australia T20 International match held in Dubai.

His elevation to the ICC Emerging Panel and upcoming Test debut represent another significant achievement in his international umpiring journey.
