LAHORE (Dunya News) – Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) working on a tip-off raided a border village and arrested three to four suspects in connection with drug trafficking here on Thursday.
The arrested suspects also included cousins of Punjab Maitul Maal and Welfare Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt. According to sources, CNF also raided the house of the uncle of the minister. The sources said there were reports of resistance and an exchange of harsh words between the CNF personnel and the minister.
CNF has confirmed the raid and said the action was taken as per the law. The force received secret information that drugs were being sold in village Basins, which led the CNF to raid the area and search sensitive sites. During the operation, three to four suspects including the cousins of the minister were arrested.
According to CNF, interrogation from the arrested suspects was underway, more arrests were expected. The circle of the investigation was expended, it said.
Confirming the raid, Counter Narcotics Force said the operation was carried out in accordance with the law, adding details on how many people were formally arrested and whether any drugs were recovered will be released soon.
No version on the incident has come to surface from the minister or his spokesperson.
Officials said crackdown on drug dealers in the border areas has been intensified and operations against drug traffickers will continue.
