PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Security forces killed two militants, including an Afghan national, during a counter-terrorism operation in Mohmand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said on Thursday.
According to the sources, the operation was conducted on June 4 as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate militant networks operating in the region.
The slain Afghan militant was identified as Umar Bilal, a resident of Afghanistan's Khost province. Security officials said he was carrying an Afghan identification card, foreign currency, modern weapons, and a suicide vest at the time of the operation.
The operation comes amid intensified counter-terrorism efforts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where security forces have been targeting militant hideouts and networks linked to recent attacks.
The development follows Pakistan's recent cross-border strikes targeting militant sanctuaries along the Afghan border. According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, at least 26 militants were killed in those operations.
Officials said the actions were launched in response to a series of recent attacks, including assaults on security installations in Musa Dara, North Waziristan, and Bannu.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in militant violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, in recent years, prompting intensified security operations against armed groups operating along the border regions.
