LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province during the month of Muharram to maintain law and order, ensure religious harmony, and protect public safety.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restrictions will remain in place from 1st to 10th Muharram, with various limitations applied across the province.

Under Section 144, no new innovations will be allowed in processions and religious gatherings. The display of weapons and inflammable materials in public places without prior permission from the competent authority has been strictly prohibited.

Authorities have also banned provocative slogans, gestures, or actions that could hurt religious sentiments or incite sectarian tensions. Any hate speech or content promoting sectarian or ethnic hostility, whether through social media or other platforms, will face strict legal action.

The directive further states that no rooftop gatherings or makeshift positions will be allowed along procession routes. Residents are also prohibited from storing stones, bottles, bricks, or any objects on rooftops.

Additionally, rooftop spectators along procession routes and standing on shop extensions have been banned for security reasons.

A temporary ban on pillion riding will be enforced on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, with exemptions for senior citizens, women, and law enforcement personnel. All other restrictions will remain effective throughout the 10-day period.
