RAWALAKOT (Dunya News) – Azad Kashmir police have said that three members of a banned Joint Awami Action Committee were killed and several others injured as a result of firing from within their own group during recent unrest in Rawalakot.
According to a spokesperson for the Inspector General of Police, armed individuals attempted to disrupt law and order on Friday evening. The spokesperson stated that the group set fires at various locations, damaged public and private property, and carried out planned attacks on law enforcement personnel.
Police said security forces responded with professionalism, restraint, and responsibility throughout the situation. A limited and carefully coordinated operation was conducted to end the siege of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Rawalakot.
Authorities stated that the safety of civilians, patients, medical staff, and public property remained the top priority during the operation.
The police spokesperson further said that four law enforcement personnel have been martyred in firing by violent elements since June 6.
According to officials, the armed and violent groups involved in the unrest have been dispersed and law and order has been restored. Operations against those accused of involvement in the violence are continuing, and authorities say the organizers and participants responsible for spreading unrest will be brought before the law.
Meanwhile, normal life continues in Muzaffarabad and other cities across Azad Kashmir. Educational institutions, business centers, and social activities are functioning without disruption, while residents are continuing their daily routines.
Sources said that, similar to other districts of Azad Kashmir, residents of Muzaffarabad rejected a call for protest and helped ensure that daily life remained unaffected. Citizens have expressed support for peace, stability, and continued development across the region.
