ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan and the United States share a relationship spanning eight decades, expressing hope that the friendship between the two countries will continue to strengthen in the years ahead.
He made these remarks while addressing a ceremony held in the federal capital to mark the 250th anniversary of United States Independence. The event brought together officials, diplomats and guests to celebrate long-standing bilateral ties.
The prime minister, speaking on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, extended congratulations to US President Donald Trump, the American administration and the people of the United States on the milestone anniversary.
He noted that the history of the United States reflects a narrative of hope and enlightenment. He further said that Pakistan and the US have maintained strong cooperation across multiple sectors including counter-terrorism, trade and investment. He highlighted that following Pakistan’s independence, the United States was among the first countries to recognise it.

He added that Pakistan hosts one of the largest freelance workforces in the world, while Pakistani doctors serving in the United States are contributing to healthcare and humanitarian services globally.
The prime minister said both countries have worked together during key historical phases, adding that recent diplomatic efforts have also reflected continued engagement at high levels. He referred to a recent meeting in Washington between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the US Secretary of State, describing it as positive and constructive.
He also praised US diplomat Natalie Baker, stating that she had served as an effective representative of the United States in Pakistan and played a role in bringing the two countries closer through active diplomacy.
Islamabad hosts 250th US Independence Day celebration
A significant portion of the Prime Minister’s remarks focused on regional peace. He said that former US President Donald Trump played a notable role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India through timely intervention. He described Trump as a “Man of Peace” and expressed hope for lasting stability in South Asia.
PM Shehbaz added that Pakistan would remain grateful for Trump’s contribution to peace efforts in the region, saying he would be remembered as a leader who advocated peace. He also expressed optimism that sustainable peace in the region would be achieved soon.
The prime minister further said that Pakistan is currently playing the role of an honest mediator between the United States and Iran, and thanked both countries for expressing confidence in Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts in this regard.
He also acknowledged the efforts of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, stating that the military leadership is actively contributing to regional stability and supporting Pakistan’s broader efforts for peace and security.
The ceremony in Islamabad reflected continued diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and the United States, highlighting areas of cooperation, people-to-people links and shared interests as both countries look towards strengthening their partnership in the coming years.
