A petition has been filed requesting the court to allow the meeting on constitutional, legal, and humanitarian grounds

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Wednesday approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking permission to meet the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for consultations regarding the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.

A petition has been filed requesting the court to allow the meeting on constitutional, legal, and humanitarian grounds, describing budget preparations as a highly important and sensitive provincial administrative matter.

According to the petition, the applicants include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and Muzammil Aslam, the Chief Minister's Advisor on Finance. The Chief Minister is responsible for good governance in the province and is bound to seek guidance and instructions from the founder chairman on various important provincial matters.

The petition noted that previously, the Chief Minister had sought permission to meet for consultations on cabinet formation and other matters.

A constitutional petition as well as a contempt of court petition filed over non-compliance remain pending before the court.

The budget preparation for fiscal year 2026-27 is a highly important and sensitive matter, and the guidance of the founder chairman is essential, the petition stated. The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elected their representatives based on the vision of the founder chairman, therefore, a consultative meeting for budget preparations is indispensable for good governance and public interest.

The court has been requested to order arrangements for a meeting between the applicants and the PTI founder and to ensure the protection of their constitutional rights.
