Updated on:

The hospital is planned to be completed between 2026 and 2029

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has approved the establishment of a new cancer hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan aimed at improving healthcare facilities for patients in southern Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has named the facility after her late mother, Kulsoom Nawaz, calling it the Kulsoom Nawaz Hospital. The project is aimed at delivering international-standard healthcare and modern medical services to the residents of Rawalpindi Cantonment.

Officials said the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital is expected to cost around Rs15.21 billion. The project is designed to provide advanced cancer treatment services to patients in the region, reducing the need to travel to major cities for medical care.

According to sources, the hospital is planned to be completed between 2026 and 2029, with funding expected to be allocated in the upcoming provincial budget.

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique stated that the initiative is part of a broader effort to expand specialised healthcare services across the province. He added that the new hospital will ensure that patients in southern Punjab have access to modern oncology treatment closer to home.

He further said that the government is also working on several large-scale healthcare projects, including cancer treatment facilities, with billions of rupees being invested in the sector.

Officials noted that the Punjab government is already constructing the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore at an estimated cost of Rs74.92 billion. The planned DG Khan facility is expected to become the second major cancer treatment centre in southern Punjab.
