Info Minister Tarar rejects voter age change rumours

Updated on:

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar denied rumours about raising voter age while criticising expansion of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has dismissed reports claiming that the government plans to raise the voting age to 25 years.

Speaking exclusively to Dunya News, Tarar said there was no truth in rumours suggesting that the proposed 28th constitutional amendment included changes to the minimum voting age.

He urged the public not to react to baseless speculation, saying such responses only helped spread misinformation further.

Commenting on political developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the information minister criticised the expansion of the provincial cabinet.

He questioned the merit and performance of the newly expanded cabinet, saying the number of ministers had now reached 31.

“Where is good governance and what performance has the provincial government delivered?” Tarar asked.

He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had ruled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 12 years but had failed to introduce meaningful reforms or improve law and order in the province.

The minister added that the provincial government should focus on governance instead of expanding the cabinet.

Tarar further said the public should know what role the newly appointed provincial ministers had played in public service.

He reiterated that rumours regarding the proposed 28th amendment should be ignored and stressed the need to focus on governance, the economy and national development issues.
