DHAKA (Web Desk) - The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections will be held on June 7, the board's election commission announced on Saturday. The general members body, known as the councillors, will elect 23 of the 25 board directors, and the BCB president will be elected from that pool of 25 to serve a four-year term.
Tamim Iqbal, the former Bangladesh captain, is the current BCB president in an ad-hoc committee formed by the government in April. Tamim is among the councillors, and is expected to conduct both the directors and the president's election on June 7.
The previous BCB elections were held in October 2025, in which Aminul Islam, another former captain, won with a sweeping majority. The Bangladesh government, however, found "serious abuse of power" following a report from an investigation committee formed to look into the 2025 elections.
There are only a few from Aminul's board of directors who will be participating in this year's elections. Aminul is reportedly in Australia, while Faruque Ahmed, another former BCB president who was in Aminul's group, is also not participating.
The draft voters' list to select the 23 directors was published on Sunday, and the final list will be made publicly available later this week.
The election will be held across three categories. In the first, ten directors will be elected from the divisions and districts in Bangladesh. In the second, 12 directors will be elected from the representatives of the Dhaka clubs. In the third, one director will be elected from a pool of former cricketers, national captains, security forces, and councillors nominated by the National Sports Council. The Bangladesh government will select the remaining two directors to sit on the board.
