SYLHET (Web Desk) – The second day of the ongoing second Test in Sylhet concluded with Bangladesh taking a 156-run lead against Pakistan.
At stumps, Bangladesh were 110 for 3 in their second innings. Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored 52, Mominul Haque made 30, and Tanzid Hasan contributed 4 runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 13. For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad took two wickets while Mohammad Abbas claimed one.
Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 232 runs in their first innings against Bangladesh.
Pakistan resumed the day at 21 without loss but quickly lost both openers. Azaan Awais scored 13 and Abdullah Fazal made 9.
Captain Shan Masood managed 21 runs, Babar Azam scored 68, Saud Shakeel made 8, Salman Agha 21, and Mohammad Rizwan 13. Hassan Ali scored 18, Sajid Khan 38, Khurram Shahzad 10, while Mohammad Abbas failed to open his account.
For Bangladesh, Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam took three wickets each, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed two wickets apiece.
DAY ONE
Bangladesh were bowled out for 278 runs in their first innings after Pakistan asked the hosts to bat after winning the toss.
The Pakistani bowlers impressed from the outset, with Mohammad Abbas striking in the very first over to give Bangladesh an early setback.
Abbas later claimed his second wicket with the hosts on 44 runs.
Bangladesh lost their third wicket at 63. By the end of the first session, the home side had reached 101 for 3.
Pakistan’s bowlers maintained pressure in the second session as well, and by tea, six Bangladeshi batters had returned to the pavilion with the score at 168.
However, in the final session, Litton Das produced a responsible yet aggressive innings and scored a brilliant century.
His outstanding knock of 126 runs played a key role in taking Bangladesh to 278.
Other notable contributors for Bangladesh included Najmul Hossain Shanto with 29, Tanzid Hasan with 26, Mushfiqur Rahim with 23, Mominul Haque with 22, and Taijul Islam with 16 runs.
For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad claimed four wickets, while Mohammad Abbas took three. Hasan Ali picked up two wickets and Sajid Khan claimed one.
In reply, Pakistan finished the opening day on 21 without loss.
Openers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal remained unbeaten on 13 and 8 respectively, and will resume batting on the second day.
Bangladesh currently lead the two-match Test series 1-0 after winning the opening Test.
