Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets in Karachi to sight Zilhaj moon

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Eidul Azha will be celebrated across Pakistan on May 27 after the Zilhaj moon was sighted on Sunday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced following its meeting in Karachi.

The session was chaired by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad at the Met Office and attended by members of the central and zonal moon sighting committees, along with officials from the Meteorological Department and SUPARCO.

Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad said after the meeting concluded that the committee had received testimonies confirming the sighting of the moon. On this basis, it was announced that 1st Zilhaj in the country will fall on May 18, while Eidul Azha will be celebrated on May 27.

According to reports, two members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee provided testimony confirming the sighting of the moon during the meeting.

In addition, three testimonies were received from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A member of the zonal committee stated that two witnesses from Mardan contacted the authorities. Individuals named Muhammad and Ahmed shared their testimony of sighting the Zilhaj moon, while another testimony was also received from Peshawar.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has also officially confirmed the sighting of the Zilhaj moon. According to Arab media reports, 1st Zilhaj in the Kingdom will fall on May 18, while Wuquf-e-Arafah will be observed on May 26 and Eidul Azha on May 27.

In Indonesia, authorities also confirmed the sighting of the moon, with the Ministry of Religious Affairs announcing that Eidul Azha will be observed on Wednesday, May 27.
