Lahore High Court suspends PTI leader Junaid Afzal Sahi’s sentence in a May 9 case and orders his release, while rejecting co-accused Firdous Rai’s plea.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court has approved the application seeking suspension of sentence filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Member of Provincial Assembly Junaid Afzal Sahi in connection with the May 9 cases.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Shahbaz Rizvi announced the reserved verdict, ordering the suspension of Sahi’s prison sentence and directing his release from custody. The court had earlier reserved its decision on the petition, which was delivered today.

In the same ruling, the court also heard the plea of co-accused Firdous Rai, who had been sentenced to 10 years in prison. His application for suspension of sentence was dismissed by the bench, leaving his conviction in place at this stage of proceedings.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Faisalabad had previously sentenced Junaid Afzal Sahi to three years in prison, while Firdous Rai was handed a 10-year sentence. Both convictions were linked to cases arising from the events of May 9.
