DIR BALA (Dunya News) - Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Sunday said that the people of Pakistan are being deceived through hollow slogan for the past 79 years.

Addressing a public gathering in Dir Bala, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that powerful class should work according to the constitution.

He said that an unjust levy of Rs 160 per litre is being charged on petrol, which is ultimately paid by the poor, adding that motorcycle riders alone pay Rs 550 billion in taxes annually.

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief stated that the salaried class pays Rs 650 billion in taxes every year, while the petrol levy is borne by ordinary citizens.

Criticizing the provincial government’s policies, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that, like the federal government, good governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has remained limited to slogans. He added that despite one party being in power for the past 14 years in the province, people are still deprived of basic facilities such as health, education, and fundamental rights.

He said that outsourcing public schools instead of improving them is clear proof of the rulers’ incompetence.

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said that the federal government has burdened the public with debt, increasing it from Rs 55 trillion to Rs 85 trillion in just four years. He added that the public is already suffering from inflation and injustice, while rulers are taking nearly Rs 20 billion in additional loans daily.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that for the past 79 years, people have been deceived through hollow slogans and empty promises. He said that the bureaucracy still operates on a colonial-era system and treats citizens as subordinates, while justice for the poor has become a dream in the country.

He demanded that the petrol price be immediately set at Rs 250 per litre, instead of benefiting feudal and capitalist groups."
