BAJAUR (Dunya News) - Suspected militants carried out an unprovoked attack on a cricket ground in Bajaur, injuring three people, according to security sources.
The incident took place in Mamond tehsil’s Shahi Tangi area, where attackers allegedly used a quadcopter to target civilians during a game. The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.
Separately, the Deputy Commissioner Bajaur said that during March and April 2026, mortar shells were fired from across the Afghan border into several areas, particularly Mamond and Salarzai.
According to officials, cross-border firing on civilian populations resulted in nine deaths, including three women and six children.
Local sources claimed the attack was deliberately timed when people were gathered at the cricket ground, aiming to spread fear among civilians.
Experts said militants were targeting unarmed civilians as they were unable to confront security forces directly.
They added that such attacks were increasing public resentment against anti-state elements.
Security forces, officials said, were responding effectively and targeting militant positions and supporting infrastructure.
