ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, currently held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, underwent his fourth intravitreal eye injection on Tuesday at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) as part of his ongoing treatment.
According to a medical statement issued by the hospital, Khan was brought to Pims for the scheduled treatment. Prior to the procedure, a team of ophthalmologists conducted a thorough examination and found him clinically stable. An Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scan also indicated signs of improvement.
The injection was administered in the operation theatre under microscopic guidance, following standard medical protocols and safety measures. Hospital authorities stated that the procedure was carried out as a day-care surgery, and Khan remained vitally stable before, during, and after the treatment.
He was later discharged with medical advice, follow-up instructions, and necessary documentation.
This latest procedure is part of his ongoing eye care. Previously, Khan was shifted to the hospital on March 23, when he received his third injection after a comprehensive evaluation. Earlier, on March 18, a five-member medical board conducted his check-up at Adiala Jail on the directives of the Islamabad High Court.
Medical reports submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan revealed that Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious condition caused by blockage of the main vein draining blood from the retina. The condition is often linked to risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease.
The report, submitted by his lawyer Salman Safdar, also noted that the former premier has complained of losing up to 85% of vision in his right eye.
Khan, 73, has been in custody since August 2023 following multiple convictions, which he and his party maintain are politically motivated. Since his removal from office in 2022 through a no-confidence vote, he has faced several legal cases, some of which have been suspended or overturned, with appeals still pending. He continues to deny any wrongdoing.
