Minister pledges availability of drugs amid regional crisis

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal chaired a high-level meeting to review availability of medicines in the country in light of the prevailing global and regional challenges.

The meeting was attended by the representatives from the pharmaceutical and medical devices industries, along with the Federal Secretary for Health and the Chief Executive Officer CEO of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.

The primary objective was to assess and strengthen a comprehensive strategy to ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines and maintain a resilient supply chain across the country.

A detailed review of the availability of helium gas, an essential component used in MRI machines was also conducted during the meeting.

The Minister highlighted that despite international challenges, the Ministry of Health and DRAP, in close coordination with the pharmaceutical industry, have taken timely and effective measures to safeguard the supply of essential medicines.

Kamal stated that as a result of these proactive steps, the country currently maintains sufficient stock of medicines for the next five to six months.

He reassured the public that there will be no disruption in the availability of medicines and that citizens will not face any difficulties in accessing essential healthcare supplies.

He further emphasized that the Ministry of Health and DRAP are closely monitoring the situation to ensure uninterrupted supply nationwide. The government remains fully committed to ensuring the continuous provision of essential health services.

The Minister directed all relevant stakeholders to enhance coordination and continue taking proactive measures to strengthen the supply chain, enabling the country to effectively respond to any future challenges in a timely manner.
