CM Maryam chairs meeting to review health sector

Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz reviews health reforms. Millions treated via Clinic on Wheels, hospitals upgraded, cardiac procedures ongoing. Orders issued for stroke centers & nursing seats.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - A special review meeting was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. During the meeting, Provincial Secretary Health and Population Nadia Saqib gave a detailed briefing on ongoing health initiatives across the province.

The briefing highlighted that under the Clinic on Wheels programme, 18.2 million patients have been treated so far, along with 7 million ultrasound services and 1.2 million children receiving immunization.

It was also shared that 2.8 million patients visited field hospitals, while 448,468 laboratory tests and 170,772 X-rays and ultrasounds were conducted.

In addition, 2,242 diabetes patients were provided two-month insulin doses at their doorstep.

Officials further informed that 14,286 hepatitis and 13,864 tuberculosis patients received two months of home-delivered medication. Under Phase One, revamping of 1,026 Basic Health Units and 191 Rural Health Centers was completed, while Phase Two saw the completion of 433 BHUs and 81 RHCs.

The meeting was told that Phase Three is currently underway, focusing on the construction and rehabilitation of 895 health centers. Community Health Inspectors have registered 63 million people across Punjab and collected data from 8 million households and 10 million homes.

Additionally, GIS teams completed mapping of 58,571 areas across the province.

Progress was also reviewed on cardiac care facilities in four district hospitals including Jhelum, Jhang, Mianwali and Vehari, where 1,628 procedures have been carried out. These include 1,055 angiographies, 559 angioplasties, 12 primary PCIs and 2 temporary pacemaker installations.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to establish stroke management centers in district hospitals and ordered completion of health center revamping within the current year. She also instructed to increase nursing degree seats in public hospitals to strengthen the healthcare workforce.
