LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken strict notice of a daylight robbery incident involving a scooter-riding girl in Nawab Town and expressed strong anger over the incident.
The Chief Minister directed Lahore police to arrest the suspect within eight hours and submit a complete report of the incident.
Maryam Nawaz said that it is extremely painful and unfortunate for such an incident of robbery to occur with a daughter, adding that the protection of women is the government’s top priority.
She stated that “daughters and sisters are a red line” and vowed that the commitment to their safety will be fulfilled at all costs.
She further instructed police to take effective measures to prevent such incidents and ensure immediate protection for citizens.
Earlier, in the O.P.F Society area of Nawab Town, a mobile phone snatching incident took place involving a girl riding a scooter, and CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced.
In the footage, the girl can be seen resisting the robbery attempt and trying to grab the suspect’s motorcycle from behind; however, she fell to the ground during the struggle. The suspect snatched her mobile phone and fled the scene.
Police said a case has been registered on the complaint of the victim’s father, Saqib, against an unknown suspect, and efforts are underway to trace him using CCTV footage and other sources.
According to police, SP City Rana Hussain Tahir also took notice of the incident and directed the SHO Nawab Town to arrest the suspect immediately, with assurances that the arrest will be made soon.
