Three-day Faiz Festival begins in Lahore

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The three-day 10th Faiz Festival kicked off here in Lahore on Friday.

The festival will remain continue until Sunday evening at Alhamra Hall.

A total of 40 sessions are scheduled to be held throughout the event.

On the opening day of Faiz Festival, several speakers addressed the inaugural ceremony, including Salima Hashmi and Razi Ahmed, among others.

The festival features book launch ceremonies, workshops, theatre performances, open mic sessions, a book fair, food stalls, drum circles, classical dance, music performances, and other distinguished activities, making it a diverse and memorable literary and cultural celebration.

A large number of enthusiasts are attending and enjoying the festival with great zeal.

Faiz Ahmad Faiz was born on February 13, 1911, at Kala Qader in Narowal district of Punjab.

He was a notable member of the Progressive Writers’ Movement and an avowed Marxist. He received the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union in 1962.

Faiz' literary work was posthumously publicly honoured when the government conferred upon him the nation’s highest civil award of Nishan-e-Imtiaz, in 1990.

His major literary works include, 'Naqsh-e-Faryadi', 'Dast-e-Saba', 'Zindan-Nama', 'Dast-e-Tah-e-Sung', 'Mere Dil Mere Musafir', 'Sar-e-Wadi-e-Sina' which have been combined as one book 'Nuskha Haa-e-Wafa'.

He passed away in Lahore on November 20, 1984.
