Mother, daughter fall into open manhole near Data Darbar in Lahore

Last month, a mother and her daughter had lost their lives after falling down into an open manhole near Data Darbar.

According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the mother-daughter duo fell into the sewer, after which search and rescue teams launched an operation. They were passing near the area when, due to insufficient lighting, they failed to notice the open manhole and fell into it.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had expressed deep shock over the death of mother and daughter, calling the incident unacceptable in a major city like Lahore. She described the accident as a moment of intense grief and termed it “criminal negligence”.

Expressing sympathy with the affected family, the chief minister announced that Rs10 million would be secured from the responsible contractor to provide financial assistance.
