NADRA launches new digital identity verification system across Pakistan

Updated on:

NADRA introduces ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’ digital portal to simplify identity verification for public and private institutions, improving security, transparency and service speed nationwide.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new digital identity verification system called Nishan-e-Pakistan, aimed at making identity checks smoother and more secure.

Under the new system, government bodies and regulated private organisations will be able to verify citizens’ identity documents through a single online platform. This means institutions can now get everything done under one roof, reducing paperwork and saving time.

NADRA said the portal will allow organisations to access services such as registration, subscription management and identity verification. It will also provide advanced features including multi-biometric verification, fingerprint authentication, proof-of-life checks and single sign-on (SSO) services.

Previously, onboarding institutions often faced long documentation procedures and repeated approval stages. Officials say the new digital system will help cut through red tape and make the process faster and more transparent.

The platform will support banks, microfinance institutions, non-banking financial companies, telecom operators and other regulated sectors. Digital financial services such as EasyPaisa and JazzCash are also expected to benefit from the improved verification framework.

According to NADRA, the system has been designed to ensure organisations can only verify identity and cannot store citizens’ data independently, strengthening privacy safeguards.

The initiative is being implemented under Pakistan’s Digital Economy Enhancement Project and in line with regulations of the Financial Action Task Force, aiming to strengthen transparency and security in digital services.
