PM Shehbaz holds talks with Libyan leadership on cooperation and regional stability

PM Shehbaz Sharif meets a high-level Libyan delegation in Islamabad, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue, engagement, and stronger bilateral relations.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening friendly relations with Libya, stressing the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

The remarks came during a meeting with a high-level Libyan delegation that called on the prime minister in Islamabad. The delegation was led by Dr Osama Saad Hamad, Prime Minister of the Libyan Government, and included Field Marshal Khalifa Abu-al-Qasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir were also present at the meeting, reflecting the importance both sides attached to the discussions.

During the talks, the Pakistani and Libyan sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and underlined the need to further strengthen bilateral relations. The discussions highlighted opportunities for closer cooperation in areas of shared concern, alongside a broader commitment to promoting peace, stability, and development at both regional and international levels.

The Libyan leadership acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role and expressed appreciation for its engagement. They also conveyed interest in expanding collaboration across multiple sectors, signalling a willingness to deepen diplomatic and institutional links.

Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining close contact and continuing engagement to explore avenues for future cooperation, reinforcing the shared intent to advance relations through dialogue and mutual understanding.
